Playlists

Playlists are ordered sequences of media items that play in rotation, such as image slideshows or video loops.

Overview

Playlists enable you to:

• Show a sequence of media items (images, videos, widgets)
• Create content independently from layouts
• Dynamically assign media based on criteria
• Schedule playlists directly to displays
• Update content without modifying layouts
• Set item limits and expiry dates

Types of Playlists

Global Playlists

Created independently and managed from the Playlists page. These can be:

• Scheduled directly to displays (plays full-screen)
• Added to layouts as sub-playlists
• Shared across multiple layouts

Local Playlists

Created within the Layout Editor for a specific layout zone. Local playlists can be converted to global playlists for reuse.

Creating a Playlist

1. Navigate to Library > Playlists
2. Click Add Playlist
3. Enter a Name
4. Select a Folder
5. Click Save to open the Playlist Editor

Adding Content

1. Open the Library Search or Widget panel
2. Drag and drop items onto the timeline
3. Reorder items by dragging within the timeline

Available Content Types

• Library media (images, videos, audio)
• Rich Text widget for text/HTML content
• Spacer widget for empty duration slots
• Any widget available in the Layout Editor

Configuring Items

Click any item in the timeline to configure:

• Duration - Display time in seconds
• Transitions - Entry and exit effects
• Expiry Dates - Start and end dates for the item

Right-click an item for quick access to expiry dates, transitions, and deletion.

Timeline Controls

• Scale mode - Adjust timeline zoom for better visibility
• Multi-select - Select multiple items for bulk actions
• Reorder - Drag items to change play order

Dynamic Playlists

Enable automatic content population based on criteria:

1. When creating or editing a playlist, enable Dynamic
2. Set filter criteria:
   • Name contains specific text
   • Tag matches specified tags
   • Media type (image, video, etc.)
3. Media matching the criteria is automatically added
4. Future uploads matching criteria are included automatically

Tip

Dynamic playlists are ideal for content that changes frequently, like photo galleries, news displays, or product showcases.

Embedding Playlists

Playlists can be nested within other playlists using Spot configurations:

• Define how many items to include from the sub-playlist
• Set duration limits
• Enable Fill mode to pad remaining time

Scheduling Playlists

Direct Scheduling

1. From the Playlists grid, open the row menu
2. Select Schedule
3. Choose target displays and timing

Via Layout

1. Add the playlist to a layout in the Layout Editor
2. Schedule the layout to displays

Management

The Playlists grid provides:

• Timeline - Edit the playlist content
• Filter - Manage dynamic playlist criteria
• Usage Report - See where the playlist is assigned
• Schedule - Schedule directly to displays
• Permissions - Control access
